A picture is worth a thousand words! Who really supports military veterans? The picture (prepared by MOAA Communications) depicts which states favor military veterans with legislation providing tax benefits on retired pay and survivor benefits. It should come as no surprise that California is the only state to provide no benefits to its military veterans.
Green: both military retired pay (MRP) & survivor benefits (SBP) are 100% exempt from state taxation.
Yellow: MRP and/or SBP receive partial state tax exemption.
Red: No state tax exemptions
